Rev. Claire MacDonald is a Unitarian minister and writer in Lewisham South London. She also volunteers at SimpleGifts, the Unitarian Social Action Centre in Bethnal Green, East London which also hosts the Live Art Development Agency, where she is a Board member. Claire came to Unitarianism from a career in theatre and the arts. She has written about collaboration, conversation, conviviality, translation, experimental writing and feminist art. She now writes about art, community, spirituality and change. Her essay âReturn to Paradiseâ will be published in the spring by the Unitarian Academy in Prague and she writes a monthly column for the British Unitarian magazine, The Inquirer, called âRising Greenâ about ecology and Unitarianism. As an activist for change she is committed to the idea, to paraphrase the composer John Luther Adams, that change originates in culture and not in politics, and that religion, like art, operates at the moving edge of experience, always edging into what is just beyond what we think we know.
